More head cam action from BBC Radio One. You might remember we loaned them one of our helmet cameras for their celebrity laps.

It’s great fun. Every celebrity they have on the Chris Moyles show now does a lap of the studio and offices. You can see the view from Peter Jones’ (the guy from Dragon’s Den) helmet cam below. Not the greatest of quality once it’s been compressd in YouTube but it’s fun none-the-less:

Cycle-cam shames drivers - action cameras in the papers

A super piece about helmet cameras being used by cyclists in London in the Evening Standard.

Quoting Sab they talk about how helmet cameras have moved out of just the extreme sports arena: “We originally started selling these to snowboarders and mountain bikers,” said Sab Jhooti of www.actioncameras.co.uk. “However, we found people have been using them to record their ride into work, and cyclists now account for the bulk of our sales.”

CYCLISTS USE THEIR HELMET CAMS TO CATCH DANGEROUS DRIVERS

Here’s the latest Action Cameras press release. Let’s hope our safer cycling campaign gets some good coverage …

Helmet-mounted cameras are the latest weapon in cyclists’ fight-back against dangerous drivers.

Tired of being run off the road and having near misses with inconsiderate motorists, bike riders in their thousands are turning to helmet cam technology to catch the culprits.

The head-mounted units from actioncameras.co.uk are traditionally used for action sports. But as their managing director Sab Jhooti explained, “There’s been a 170% in the number of cycling commuters buying our cameras to name and shame motorists”.

Over 15,000 cyclists were killed or seriously injured last year, with 90% of accidents happening in urban areas and 75% at or near road junctions.

As camera wearing cyclist Andy from Staines said, “What we record can be used to identify drivers and highlight the rising plight of those of us who chose the bike over the car as a way of getting around our increasingly congested cities”.

The helmet-mounted cameras are easy and safe to wear, simply strapping onto all standard cycle helmets. They can record up to several hours with sound and connect to PCs and Macs via a USB cable.
