The Good: The ATC3k action camera has a wider camera lens, means more action on camera, the ATC3k can be used as a webcam for skype, plus the 4Gb capacity is great as it means that you can get up to 2hrs recording
The Bad: It looks just like the ATC2K – just black…
The Action Cameras Bottom Line: For just a little more in price, you get a lot more with the ATC3k so it’s a must for anyone wanting to film their extreme sports at a reasonable price.

This camera looks awesome …
can’t wait until the end of the month for it to be released in the UK.

What is the video quality like? I bought a ATC2K but then sold it again as the quality wasnt good enough. Have the Oregon guys done any work here? Cheers.

Hi Tony,
The main changes with the ATC3K is all the new features and functions. The video quality is still the same resolution but Oregon has worked on the light adjustments and clarity to get better footage. There is definitely a noticeable improvement.

I got my ATC3K in the mail a few days ago. I have only used it once, but was happy with the results. Considering the ATC3K is small and fairly cheap, I can’t compain about the quality. I put a 4gig SDHC chip in mine and I get 2 hours of video. If the camera was higher resolution, it would store much less. I appreciate the 2hr storage.
I think the buttons are a little on the hard side to press, but if you are doing extreme sports, you don’t want to accidently turn it off, I guess.
I put it on my mountain bike handle bars for a ride. Can’t wait to put it to a real test when I go to Mammoth Mountain with it!

I came across this blog the other day and you got some great info here - thanks.

So the ATC3K is definitely SDHC compatible, because I haven’t read anywhere on the oregon site if it is or not…

Hi Mike,
Yes the ATC3K is compatible with SDHC. In fact, all the SD cards that we sell along with this camera are SDHC.

Hi, I just ordered my ATC3K for paintball and some holiday footage, just a quick one really, it’ll still utilise normal SD cards won’t it?

Clark, yip it will still work fine with any standard SD card up to 4Gb. Please don’t be shy about sending us some footage from paintballing! We’re always keen to put some great videos up here on the blog…

Thanks for the reviews everyone. I’m looking forward to receiving my ATC3K in the next couple of days. I wish I had it for my past fishing trip. I would’ve loved to capture my first Dorado on video. If you’ve ever fished for Dorado’s, you’d know exactly what I mean. Having them fly out of the water like Marlins is priceless.

Tommy, where’s the best place to fish for Dorado around the UK? I’ve caught them before off South Africa’s Wild Coast; they always sit just on the dirty water line and give such a great fight
Its such a shame that their colours fade away so quickly once they’re out of the water.
I definitely agree that filming that from your own point-of-view would be brilliant!

Why is the ATC3K limited to a 4GB SD card? Why can’t it take something bigger?
Thanks guys.

Hi Will. Oregon Scientific have done their best to keep the ATC3K as compact and as reasonably priced as possible. If they put in a faster and bigger drive then the price would be higher.
The 4Gb gives you 2hrs of recording which is more then any other self-contained action camera available; and if you do want to record more then you can easily and quickly change to a back up card.
