O’Neill H Division Campack

Action Cameras is proud to launch the O’Neill H Division Campack which is the wicked new O’Neil backpack with a built-in helmet cam! Building on the success of the Campack’s first two seasons, this year’s model sees an even more exceptional quality of camera than ever before. The fully functional snowboard backpack also features an integrated portable media player as well as a helmet mounted camera lens.

Just like last year’s Campack it’s all about ease of use. The wearer is able to start and stop recording almost effortlessly by pressing a large button positioned on the left shoulder strap. There’s quite simply no better way to film freestyle and freeride snowboarding action before sharing the footage over the internet with friends and fellow web surfers.

The portable media player, meanwhile, is positioned in the backpack’s top pocket. Serving to record all footage captured by the goggle strap or helmet mounted camera lens, the portable media player writes the files directly to an SD card, which can then be inserted easily into any PC for instant reviewing. On the mountain, the user is able to review footage as and when desired by opening the top pocket and operating controls positioned behind the zipper.

As the portable media player stored safely between protective padding in the backpack’s top pocket, the user has an empty main compartment in which to store any essentials, as well as a dedicated shovel pocket and avalanche probe pocket. The user is also able to attach a snowboard horizontally to the backpack using the external snowboard-carrying straps, and the backpack has also been designed to accommodate a hydrating camelbak system ideal for all-day backcountry hiking expeditions.

ATC5K Customer Review

Many thanks to Peter for sending through his detailed review of his ATC5K. We are glad that you like your camera so much!…

I was introduced to the ATC series about 12 months ago when I bought the ATC2K. On May 4 2008, one of my bikes was ‘customised’ by a Bangkok bus along with the ATC2K – I was fortunate and only had a few minor cuts. I did think about replacing it straight away but I had heard that Oregon Scientific was bringing out the ATC3K with an increased capacity and the ATC5K with the LCD monitor. I’m glad that I waited.

The ATC5K is similar in size, shape and weight to its predecessors. It retains the same fitting attachment which locates into the various mounts with a satisfying ‘click’. The control buttons are easier to use than the ATC2K which I found were a bit ‘fiddly’. I found access to the batteries, SD card and USB connected were far easier – just unclip the monitor screen rather than twist off the end cap.

The package also includes a remote control and a webcam mount and CD. When the ATC5K is helmet mounted, I found the remote control very useful as I tended to knock the camera out of alignment when I tried to switch it on to record manually. I never use a webcam but… I found it very useful when trying to align the helmet mount; with the unit connected to your pc, assume your normal riding position and adjust via your pc. If you have a laptop, then sit on the bike and adjust from there.

What I like about the ATC5K is that it is self contained, has a 2 hour capacity and the price.

Where the ATC5K can be improved – I normally have mine handlebar mounted and because of heavy traffic, I sometimes find it difficult to hear the ‘beeps’ so the addition of a small viewing window above the front facing red and green lights would be useful.

I know that you can buy lighter cameras but you need an additional recording device and I have enough stuff in my back pockets to carry around. For the price, it represents good value for money.

Two videos - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrPvrzg6dpk and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VH0LFIgqDkQ have just be through Windows Movie Maker which has just edited them using Auto Movie facility, I have not enhanced it in any other way. You may be able to detect some wave motion but this is due to the suspension forks and road surface - not to the unit itself.

Saas Fee Ride 2008

The second event in the 2008 Ride series took place Saturday 19th July in the glacial resort of Saas-Fee, Switzerland.
The European Summer Freeskiing Championships, the Saas-Fee Ride 08, offered spectators the chance to see some of Europe’s top Big Air freestyle ski action all in view of the famous Allalin mountain peak.

The riders were kitted with lots of helmet cameras, check the video:

Hope you enjoyed the day if you made it to Saas-Fee for the event. If you didn’t get over here and check out their new snowpark, it’s well worth a visit! Look forward to seeing you all at the London Ride 08 on the 25th October at the Kensington Olympia, London. It’s part of the Metro Ski + Snowboard Show 2008 so you can expect to see a great indoor event!

The Gadget Show Challenge: POV.1 vs VeeCam

The POV.1 took centre stage on the Gadget Show this week when Jason and Dallas each geared themselves up with one of the leading action cameras; one of them kitted up with a POV.1 Action Camera and the other with a VeeCam, and off they went to test the cameras to the limits.

Obviously the POV.1 came out on top but, nevertheless, this in-action review is well worth watching!

Action Cameras is proud to be the UK distributor of the POV.1 and to have supplied The Gadget Show with the POV.1 that was used in the show. We were obviously happy with the results!
Enjoy!

POV.1 with 4Gb and 8Gb upgrades!

Action Cameras has just figured out how to crack the code on an SD card to allow them to work with your POV.1. This means that you can now get up to 3hrs on a 4Gb card and up to 6hrs on an 8Gb card!

This amazing break through brings down the wall on one of the only shortfalls of the revolutionary POV.1 Action Camera – the limited memory space. You can now head out for a whole day of extremities and not worry about running out of recording time.

If you already have a POV.1 Action Camera then we can get you these cracked SD cards and they’ll work great with your cameras, and if you are looking to get a new unit then you can get these cards with your new camera right from the beginning.

We are really excited to let everyone know about this so spread the word and tell your friends that they can now double or even quadruple the memory space for the POV.1 Action Camera.
