Megavalanche in L’alpes d’Huez with Action Cameras

Action Cameras will be attending the incredible Megavalanche in L’alpes d’Huez mountain biking event in France over the weekend of the 10 – 12 July. This is one of the greatest and most extreme downhill mountain biking events on the calendar and we are looking forward to getting some brilliant action cam footage from those guys who’re crazy enough to tackle those trails.

ATC5K Customer Review

I was introduced to the ATC series about 12 months ago when I bought the ATC2K. On May 4 2008, one of my bikes was ‘customised’ by a Bangkok bus along with the ATC2K – I was fortunate and only had a few minor cuts. I did think about replacing it straight away but I had heard that Oregon Scientific was bringing out the ATC3K with an increased capacity and the ATC5K with the LCD monitor. I’m glad that I waited.

The ATC5K is similar in size, shape and weight to its predecessors. It retains the same fitting attachment which locates into the various mounts with a satisfying ‘click’. The control buttons are easier to use than the ATC2K which I found were a bit ‘fiddly’. I found access to the batteries, SD card and USB connected were far easier – just unclip the monitor screen rather than twist off the end cap.

The package also includes a remote control and a webcam mount and CD. When the ATC5K is helmet mounted, I found the remote control very useful as I tended to knock the camera out of alignment when I tried to switch it on to record manually. I never use a webcam but… I found it very useful when trying to align the helmet mount; with the unit connected to your pc, assume your normal riding position and adjust via your pc. If you have a laptop, then sit on the bike and adjust from there.

What I like about the ATC5K is that it is self contained, has a 2 hour capacity and the price.

Where the ATC5K can be improved – I normally have mine handlebar mounted and because of heavy traffic, I sometimes find it difficult to hear the ‘beeps’ so the addition of a small viewing window above the front facing red and green lights would be useful.

I know that you can buy lighter cameras but you need an additional recording device and I have enough stuff in my back pockets to carry around. For the price, it represents good value for money.

You may be able to detect some wave motion but this is due to the suspension forks and road surface – not to the unit itself.

Mondial du VTT Video Summary

The actioncameras team was at the Mondial du VTT in Les 2 Alpes (France).
One of the biggest MTB show in Europe, the launch of the season in France !!

We had the POV.1 in test, that was a huge success, everybody was impressed by the ease of use and the quality of this kit.

POV.1, The video demo

Here is a few ideas how to use your POV.1 while Skiing, MTBiking or on a trackday ! Can be used in much more other situation, so if you have some good and new POV.1 footage feel free to send us some raw footage an we’ll edit an other demo video of the POV.1.

Action Cameras attended Fort William MTB World Cup!

The UCI Mountain Biking World Cup was held in Fort William, Scotland from the 6th – 8th June. Action Cameras was there in style to capture the event on film and capture everyone’s imagination by showing off the quality of the cameras and the great film that everyone can get by simply sticking a Helmet Camera on!

Bike Radar, which Action Cameras sponsors, put in a great effort and was rewarded with good finishes. We connected the POV.1 camera onto a few guys coming down the track and got brilliant footage from this – we even caught a huge wipe out of Ralph Jones. The crowds favourite video was of Chris Hutchins with a reverse helmet mount looking back into his face to catch the intense focus of the professionals.

We had a great time up in Scotland and are looking forward to attending next year for the third time! Thanks to the riders who worked with us to give us the great footage and also to everyone who came and spent so much time at our stand.

See you all there again next year!
