Max power for Predator actioncams

Capturing all the action from the greatest offshore powerboat endurance race in the world

Saturday 29th August sees one of the biggest powerboat start-lines in the world when 50-60 offshore powerboats take off from Cowes, Isle of Wight for two separate powerboat races. The races form part of the Cowes Powerboat Festival which will include the famous and legendary Cowes-Torquay-Cowes (CTC) race which is reknowned to be the greatest powerboat race in the world and Predator cameras will be there to capture all the action.

Predator VX360s are the waterproof video cameras of choice for two powerboat disciplines taking part in the race: Team Scorpion and three of the Formula 4-Stroke Association powerboats. Each of the race vessels will site the Predator cams on helmets and in cockpits to capture the drama and excitement of all the on-board action.

Team Scorpion, which consists of the world’s top female powerboat champion, Shelley Jory at the helm and Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, an icon of the sailing world as Shelley’s navigator, will take part in the CTC. This race, which is tipped as the longest and toughest one-day endurance powerboat race in the world, is expected to take 3-4 hours, depending on weather conditions.

Honda Formula 4 powerboats take off for the Cowes-Poole-Cowes race in a one hour-long fast and furious race. The race will give the Honda crews their first taste of long distance non-multi-lap racing in seas that could prove troublesome.

Shelley Jory comments on the benefits of action footage captured using the Predator actioncams; ‘We’ve used action taken from above using helicams in the past and although this is good it is limited and it doesn’t actually capture the speed, adrenaline and raw drama of the offshore powerboat experience. Whereas the Predator really gets under the skin of it and while watching the footage you get a sense you were actually there in the cockpit experiencing the race with us.’

Predator marketing manager Jon Porter comments; ‘Predator products are all about capturing exciting and adrenaline filled moments no matter how extreme the conditions are so getting involved with the longest one day powerboat endurance race in the world is the perfect fit for the product. This is the kind of extreme activity the rugged and waterproof VX360 was designed for. We are proud to have the opportunity to work alongside Shelley, Sir Robin and the Formula 4 teams, furthering our aim to work with some of the best racers and adventurers this planet has to offer.’
